Dr. Sismanis is an oculofacial, plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Richmond with consultative office in Williamsburg. Board certified in ophthalmology and a fellow of the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Sismanis utilizes his vast knowledge of periocular and facial surgery along with his background as an ophthalmologist to provide the ideal aesthetic outcome while maintaining the function and health of the eyelids and eyes.
Medical conditions treated include heavy or droopy upper eyelids, loose lower eyelids, heavy brows, benign and cancerous eyelid and facial lesions, tearing problems, thyroid related eye problems, facial and orbital trauma, tumors of the eye socket and facial paralysis.
In addition to a busy functional practice, Dr. Sismanis also has extensive training in aesthetic surgery, offering a variety of surgical procedures including upper and lower blepharoplasty for hooded, puffy or wrinkled upper and lower eyelids, forehead lifts, and midface lifts.
Non-surgical services include neuro-toxin injections (Botox), facial fillers and skin resurfacing. For those who desire additional adjunctive procedures not provided by our office, Dr. Sismanis routinely works with other highly skilled surgeons in the community to provide the comprehensive treatment required for the situation, both for functional and cosmetic issues.

Dr. Sismanis, a Richmond native, attended the College of William & Mary where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in biology before continuing on to Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
Following VCU, Dr. Sismanis completed a one-year internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY followed by a three-year Residency in Ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Following residency, Dr. Sismanis completed a two year ASOPRS-approved fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery with Dr. David Holck and Christopher DeBacker in San Antonio, TX.
During this period he performed over 2,000 and assisted in over 4,500 procedures including upper eyelid blepharoplasty, ptosis (droopy eyelid) repairs, lower eyelid tightening procedures, Mohs repairs (following removal of skin cancer), dacryocystorhinostomy (tear duct surgery), orbital decompressions, orbital tumor removals, orbital fracture and facial laceration repairs, and removal of blind painful eyes.
In addition to these functional surgeries, he gained experience in multiple aesthetic procedures including cosmetic upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, upper and lower face lifting and neck lifting techniques, lip lifting, skin resurfacing techniques (laser treatments and chemical peels), Botox and various filler materials.
